The multicolor course categories allow a color to be associated with categories and subcategories that will display throughout the site.

Multicolor course categories

To use the multicolor course categories feature, assign each category or subcategories a color. Each course inside that category will take on the assigned color and display with that assigned color throughout the site. This allows users to quickly view program area courses at a glance.

Site wide settings

The multicolor course categories can be set at the site level. To access this setting navigate to site administration >>>> plugins >>>> local plugins >>>> refined settings >>>> select the enable category coloring.

When this setting is enabled (the checkbox is marked), site administrators have the ability to associate colors with course categories. These category colors are displayed to the end user.

Assigning a course category color

To assign a course category color, navigate to site administration >>>> courses >>>> manage courses and categories >>>> add a new category or edit an existing category >>>> enter the color reference code.

Input the color code in the color reference:

A color can also be chosen from the color picker. Click the gray square to reveal the color picker.

Display of course category colors within the site

The course category colors appear in the following areas of the LMS: 

advanced search – where any course associated with the search term will display the course results with its corresponding course category color.

required courses block – displaying any required courses with their corresponding course category color.

recommended courses block – displaying any recommended courses with their corresponding course category color.

upcoming events block – displaying any meeting events that are part of a course with its associated color category designation.

expiring courses block – displaying any expiring courses by course category color.

my certificates block and certificate report – within the block, select my certificates to display the certificate report by course category color.

calendar – displaying all events associated with a course and its corresponding color.

The MyCourses block and the corresponding listing on the the My Home page does not currently support color mapping. Therefore, the course category color will not display to the end user in their MyCourses block or My Home page.
